Overview & Mission
The Ardhi University (ARU) Library is a core component of the university in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and serves as the primary hub for academic and research information. Our mission is to support the scholarly and educational pursuits of students, faculty, and the wider community by providing a rich, accessible, and dynamic collection of resources and services. We are committed to fostering a culture of research and lifelong learning.
Collections & Resources
Physical Collections
Our physical collection is carefully curated to support the university's academic programs. It includes:
- Over 14,207 volumes of books and periodical titles.
- Specialized subject areas including Architectural Studies, Urban Planning, Geomatics, Land Management, and Real Estate Studies.
- A dedicated reference section with encyclopedias, dictionaries, and atlases.
Digital Resources
We provide extensive access to a wide array of digital resources to support modern research.
- Subscription to 4 e-book and 4 e-journal databases, covering diverse academic disciplines.
- Access to 46 free electronic journal databases via the Consortium of Tanzania University and Research Libraries (COTUL).
- A robust integrated library management system (Koha) with an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) for seamless searching.
- Links to various open-access electronic journal and book sources.
Special Collections & Archives
The library is a repository for valuable historical and specialized materials related to our key academic fields.
- A collection of rare books and historical documents on urban development in Tanzania.
- University archives, including dissertations, theses, and institutional publications.
- A dedicated section for maps, blueprints, and architectural drawings.

- **Circulation Services:** Borrowing, renewal, and reservation of materials.
- **Research Support:** Personalized reference assistance, citation management, and literature search guidance for students and faculty.
- **User Training:** Regular workshops on database navigation, information literacy, and digital tools.
- **Inter-Library Loan:** Access to resources from partner libraries, including the University of Dar es Salaam Library.

Library Hours
The ARU Academic Library is open to serve the academic community with the following hours.
